Choose Happiness
We’ve heard the saying, “Happiness is a choice” but when you’re having a rough day/week how do you choose happiness when it feels like the world is working against you?
Here’s the task:
Step 1: Notice when you’re thinking unhappy thoughts.
Notice when you’ve started to think about work when you’re at home, and there’s nothing you can do about work. Notice when you start to think about that person that you resent, and remind yourself that they are not your concern.
Step 2: Remember someone you’re grateful for and a specific thing they did/do for you.
Whether it’s your partner, your sister, or your best friend, there’s someone in your life who makes you smile when you think about them. Let yourself have a daydream about a special time you had together, and remember how happy they make you feel.
Step 3: Make a plan to see that person.
You might not be able to see the person right away, and you may need Skype to see them at all – but make it happen. If you live with the person that makes you feel this way, you may still need to make plans to see them in a different context than the everyday (take the kids to grandma’s house so you and your partner can cook a nice dinner together, go for a walk, and have long undisturbed sex).
Choose happiness.
