Is Your Food Harmful?
In this blog we’ll talk about the importance of avoiding foods that your body is sensitive to. For a better understanding of what a food sensitivity is, read Food Sensitivities.
Eating foods that contain ingredients that we are sensitive to, causes a cascade of problems that are not perceptible to most people, and are not likely to be linked to food sensitivities. Food affects our bodies in different ways for different people, so it’s imperative that you base your diet on your body, not other people’s bodies.
The most important diets to follow are diets for cancer, diabetes, and autoimmune diseases. These diets include properly managing food sensitivities that range from gluten and dairy, to sugar and chemical sugar alternatives.
Here’s what you need to know:
1: Heath problems can be managed by food.
Most health problems can be improved by stabilizing blood sugar. Sugar feeds cancer growth and other unwanted cell growth, and it also feeds insulin resistance. The best way to avoid spikes in blood sugar is to choose carbs that are high in fiber like legumes (lentils, black beans etc.). Eating anti-inflammatory foods like omega 3s, spices, herbs, and bone broth are ways to contribute to a positive gut environment, which will lead to health improvement.
2: Avoiding food sensitivities is part of harm reduction.
Getting a food sensitivity test and following the results will prevent your food from causing further damage. If you treat food as medicine rather than eating only for comfort, you can drastically reduce you risks of health problems. If you are sensitive to eggs and you eat eggs every day, you might not notice that health problems are evolving from this disruption. Check out The Gut and The Basics of Epigenetics for more on this.
At the end of the day, all this means is that you are in control. You have a hand in designing your health future. Yes genetics play a role; yes eating healthy is not always delicious. But if you take control of your health you will be far better off than if you allow your body to fall through the cascade of consequences that comes from thoughtless eating.
