Start Exercising During Covid-19

We can say it’s easier. We can say you have more time. We can say you have nothing better to do so you might as well figure out how to exercise. The truth is it’s just as hard now as it ever was. If you’ve never worked out, it’s not easy to start now just like it wasn’t easy to start a few months ago. If you worked out at the gym, it’s not easy to workout at home. But that doesn’t mean that you’re not going to do it.

You are going to do it! Even though it’s hard.

We’ve realized that even with a little extra time, we don’t feel magically motivated to workout; even so you’re going to start now because this is your wakeup call. If you’re feeling unmotivated, you’re not alone…but it also means that you will never feel motivated. So stop waiting to that mystical feeling to hit you and just start.

Here’s how you workout:

1) Wear workout clothes

This doesn’t mean you need to order new clothes and put off your workouts until they arrive. Just have a certain sweater or pair of shorts that you only wear when working out. It helps set the mood. Even on low energy days, you just have to change into your workout clothes and you’ll automatically be more likely to workout.

2) Open Youtube

Type in what you want to do. Ex: “How to start weight training”, “How to start running”, “Beginner yoga”. Whatever it is, just start. When you’re ready for more, find a paid program that has some individualization.

3) Cool down by addressing pain

Open Youtube again and type in your pain. Most people are going to experience either shoulder, knee or low back pain. Choose 3 stretches/physio exercises to do every day and if you don’t get results, pick 3 different ones. If you’re still receiving benefits, many physio offices are doing online consults and can help you take the guesswork out.

Remember, it doesn’t matter if you’re perfect. It doesn’t matter if you are the best. And it definitely doesn’t matter if you feel motivated.

Just start.
