3 Superfoods For Losing Belly Fat

You’ve seen the ads, you’ve heard the commercials, you’ve read the blogs of all the health gurus and they’re telling you the same thing. “3 Superfoods for Loosing Belly Fat”, “How To Lose 10lbs In One Week By Eating Only This Food!”, “Lose Fat Faster Than Ever With This Superfood Smoothie”.

Now the truth…are you ready?

These Ads Are All Full Of Shit.

Sorry, but it’s true. The majority of these claims are unfounded proclamations about a few foods that, although they might be great foods, don’t have magical powers. Sorry Doctor Oz, but we started to get suspicious after you got sued for false claims...again.

Why Are These Claims BS?

The principle “Calories In vs. Calories Out” will always stand true. If you eat more calories than you burn in a day, you will not lose weight. So it doesn’t matter that avocado, almonds, honey, pineapple, and cherries have these great health benefits…if you eat more than you burn, you will not lose weight.

There’s also the problem of insulin spikes. There are lots of superfoods that are high in sugar (many fruits). So even though they have many benefits, that doesn’t mean they’re always the best choice for fat loss and disease prevention (See Why Insulin Is Making You Fat).

So What Superfoods Aren’t Calorie Dense And Insulin Spiking?

Water

Water is the most underrated superfood of all time. It helps with every body function, and is necessary for weight loss. We need approximately 2.5-3 Liters of water per day (more during times of sweaty exercise).

Spices/Herbs

From garlic and ginger to cinnamon and turmeric there are so many spices and herbs that carry great benefits with very few calories. Add a variety of spices to your day and turn bland meals into superfood treats by experimenting with different spices and herbs.

Vegetables

The more colourful, the better. We get so caught up in claims about certain foods that we neglect a whole food group (just vegetables, see Fruit Is Not Your Friend).  Vegetables are a key contributor to satiating hunger, reducing disease, losing fat, and literally changing our genetic code. Eat your veggies!
