Breakthroughs
Breakthroughs bring the changes you’ve been looking for. It’s a word to describe how you can go from who you are today, to who you want to be. Here’s what you have to address in order to have a breakthrough.
Change your strategy:
The definition of madness is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. If you have a goal, whether it's a health or fitness goal, a lifestyle or financial goal, if you have been trying to achieve that goal through one avenue and you haven’t completed it…you have to change your strategy.
Change your story:
We all tell ourselves stories about ourselves. These stories sound like, “I’m introverted and shy”, “I’m always going to be overweight”, “I’m not good at saving money”, “I’ll never be able to quit smoking”. We need a story to tell ourselves…but why did we choose this story? Rewrite your story so that it serves you.
Change your mind:
Be ready to change the way you’re thinking. There’s a dialogue in our heads all the time, but we get to design that dialogue. If we allow that dialogue to go unchecked, it turns into a script of lies and anxiety. We infer others’ thoughts and fill in the blanks with negative self talk and all of a sudden you’re having a bad day, or a bad relationship, or a bad life. But if you check in with that dialogue, you can edit as needed. You can ask yourself, “is this real, or am I making things up?” “Is this a universal truth, or is this something I’ve convinced myself to be true?”.
You also have the ability to change your mindset in every moment. Happiness is a choice. If you notice you’re sad, change your mind and be happy. If you notice you’re pissed of, change your mind and be happy. It’s not as hard as it sounds. And if your inner dialogue just told you “Lily’s a quack”, ask yourself why. Is it because choosing happiness moment to moment is impossible? Is that the universal truth? Or is it because if it were true it means if you want to be happy all the time you have to put in the work of changing your mindset moment to moment? Anything is possible given time and hard work. The great part about changing your mind is it takes diligent work but not hard work, and it takes time but not extra time than what you’re currently spending on being unhappy.
