How To Choose Carbs
Choose your carbs based on your goals and your genetics
Every body responds to carbs differently. Genetics play a factor in deciding what our body does with certain nutrients. Those who deal with carbs well are more likely to be smaller and may have an easier time staying lean that those whose bodies do not deal with carbs well. Fitness goals also play a role, helping us decide how high our carb intake should be. Generally if I want to gain weight I must eat more carbs, and if I want to loose weight I want to eat less carbs (generally!).
Sometimes it’s hard to choose carbs for these reasons because we grew up eating pasta more than once a week for dinner, sandwiches every day for lunch, and cereal for dinner. Luckily we can now find products that fit our needs.
There’s low carb pasta made from konjac yams, medium carb pasta made from mung beans, or high carb pasta made from wheat.
There’s low carb bread made from seeds, medium carb bread made from almond flour, or high carb bread made from wheat.
Breakfast could be low carb (eggs), or medium carb (oats), or high carb (cereal and fruit)
